Friends, it’s been a long time…

Life has been complicated and my mind has been focused on other things. Last year, my mother suffered a stroke that kicked off dementia. A rapid decline followed and she passed away this last spring, just shy of her 86th birthday.

My mother was a big mystery fan. I don’t remember her reading anything else but. She introduced me to Sherlock Holmes through Mystery! on PBS. I was shocked — shocked! — when I found out that Holmes used cocaine. My ten year old mind was not ready.  While our tastes diverged — she was more into Christie and historical mysteries and I was a PI fan — I wouldn’t be the writer I am today without my mom.

The New Book is Out!

The work on the next Jimmy Cooper got sidelined by all that was going on, but it’s done and it’s out.

Jimmy has gone from hero back down to zero and then one night, someone from his past knock’s on his door…

I’ve also gotten sucked into social media a little more than I’d like… Which, yeah, who hasn’t. I want to work on longer pieces about writing and what’s coming up for me. An Appearance!

With the new book out, I’m excited to head to New Orleans for Bouchercon, the big mystery conference of the year.

This year, for the first time, I’m moderating a panel! We’re talking about one of my favorite things: music! We’re going to chat about how we use music in our mysteries. I tend to incorporate a lot of music in my books. Jimmy Cooper is constantly listening to music and it allows me to soundtrack moments.
